7/8 -- 2012 Practice and Game Schedules

Policy on Lightning/Thunder: All players & coaches must leave the field and get into a vehicle or seek coverage.  Play may resume ONLY after 30 minutes has passed with no further thunder or lightning.  30 minutes for every bolt or roar of thunder . . . NO EXCEPTIONS!

Our season will begin on March 12th.

New this year for all 7th / 8th graders  - All players will have the option to choose from the traditional teams or the Blazer Teams. If your daughter would like to play on the traditional teams, she will be assigned to one of the two teams in an blind draft, balanced in strength just as we have done in past years. The Blazer teams will be selected based on skill and commitment to practices and games.  The try out schedule for the Blazers is below.  If your daughter would like to try-out for the Blazer Team, we ask that you e-mail Laurie Johnson at lgj23@verizon.net , please include the following: your daughter's name, grade and preferred position(s).  Please send an e-mail to Laurie by Friday, February 3rd if your daughter would like to try out for the Blazers. Please keep in mind, any player who is not chosen to play on one of the Blazers teams, will be placed on one of our two traditional teams. 

Tryouts for the Blazers -

 ***We will be outside on turf.  Please make sure your daughter is dressed appropriately for the weather conditions the day of try outs

***Players participating in the Blazer try out are committing to attending all practices and all games during the season.   Playing time will be impacted significantly if practices and/or games are missed. 

 YSC Sports   Feb 25 (Saturday) 4:00-5:30pm (7th), 5:30-7:00pm (8th)

                     Feb 27 (Monday) 7:30-8:30pm (7th)
and Feb 29 (Wednesday) 5:30-6:30pm (8th)

                    **Dates and time are based on the weather
and the number of registrants**.

 

Specific team assignments for all four 7th/8th grade teams will be available shortly after try outs, please look for an email from your daughter's coach the week of March 1st. 

Practices for the 7th/8th graders will be on Sunday at Valley Forge Middle School.  The Blazers team will practice 1:00-3:00 and the traditional teams will practice 3:00-5:00. 

 

 

All players will need a girl's lacrosse stick (no mesh), regulation eye gear, a colored mouth guard, and a water bottle.  Turf shoes, cleats or sneakers can be worn.  If you need equipment, please take note of the coupons offered on our website.

No jewelry of any kind is permitted (that includes friendship bracelets).  If your daughter has earrings, they will need to be removed (many get lost on the field, please get in the habit of taking them out at home.)  This is a safety rule and referees are very firm.

Every 7th/8th grade players will receive a pinnie to keep.  This is a special THANK YOU from our league to our players. We appreciate and thank our players for the years they have dedicated to the game of lacrosse, as well as to Pioneer Quix Stix.  We are very proud of the many players that participate in our program.

PRACTICES BEGIN: MARCH 12th    

*2 weeks of practice before games start.

March 24th              - Games Begin - First game may be more of a scrimmage

March 30-April 7th - T/E spring Break - no games scheduled

April 14th                - second game 

April 15th                - third game, Quix Stix Lacrosse Festival/ Picture Day Teamer Field at CHS

April 20th                - Blazer Play day - Coventry Spring Fling Play day, (tentatively set                                                 for Friday evening- Owen J Roberts High School).

April 21th                - fourth game 

April 28th                - fifth game

May 5th                   - sixth game

May 12th                 - seventh game - Blazers : Abington Play Day

May 19th                 - eighth game

May 26th                 - Memorial Day Weekend

June 3rd                  - Wissahickon PAGLA Playday - optional  

Additional event -  'Queen of Stoga' Tournament-  Amy Orcutt, varsity coach of the Conestoga Girls Lacrosse team and her players invite all 7th/8th Quix Stix to participate in a small sided tournament at Conestoga High School , it is a great day full of fun and lacrosse and supports the Conestoga Girls Lacrosse Team.
