1) What is Pioneer Quix Stix?
Pioneer Quix Stix is a non-profit girls lacrosse league designed to develop the skills & love of the game of lacrosse.
2) Who can register to play?
Girls living in Tredyffrin-Easttown townships currently in grades 3 to 8. Due to demand, we have, if space permits, taken a few additional girls outside the TE area. If living outside the T/E township, please contact pioneerquixstix@gmail.com to request a slot. Those requests are very limited and on a first-come basis.
3) Do you offer any discounts?
Yes. We have a sibling discount. The first player in your family pays the full registration fee and all subsequent players within the same family receive a $25 discount off their registration.
4) Do you offer financial aid?
Yes. Please contact pioneerquixstix@gmail.com to discuss your need. All requests are kept strictly confidential.
5) Do I really need to join USL to play?
Yes. The USL fee ($25 per player) is incorporated into the registration fee and is non-returnable. All players must pay this fee for insurance purposes.
6) What is included within the registration fee?
All practices and games (including Quix Stix Day on Teamer Field!) as well as membership to USL. The registration fee also includes fees associated with the league: field rental, referee fees, equipment, uniforms, etc. Any additional lacrosse opportunities to include, but not limited to the following require an additional fee: winter teams, local lacrosse tournaments open to our membership and possibly any clinics or camps.
7) My daughter has never played before and she's now in middle school. Is it too late?
Absolutely not! Some of our best players started learning the game late.
8) What equipment is needed to play?
A GIRLS lacrosse stick, a colored mouth guard, protective lacrosse eye gear are all a must. We recommend cleats or turf shoes, but your daughter can wear sneakers. Absolutely no jewerly (to include friendship bracelets). If you are planning on getting your daughter's ears pierced, please know that she will be required to remove her earrings at games and practices.
9) My daughter also plays other spring sports/activities? Can I request a specific team once I see the practice schedule?
No. Our season is extremely short. Although we realize many girls have a variety of activities each season, we sincerely hope she will make lacrosse her priority during our limited season and attend practices and games.
10) How do you put the teams together? Are they rated?
Quix Stix is a developmental league. With the exception of the 7th and 8th grade Blazers teams, we do not separate our teams into different levels. We strive to create balanced and equal teams in terms of strength and grade level through a "blind draft." The coaches receive their team assignments at the pre-season coaches meeting and will contact their team sometime in March.
11) Why did you decide to create two Blazers teams, one for 7th grade and one for 8th grade?
The Quix Stix Board has introduced this change after evaluating our game performances over the past few years and reviewing feedback from the surrounding township leagues and our Quix Stix parents. The number of teams in our area that have level set their programs has increased and participation in summer club programs and off season clinics at the 7th/8th grade level has increased as well. Additionally, Quix Stix has experienced practice and game commitment issues with the older ages. We will require a full commitment to the season for the Blazers teams.
12) My daughter's friend is registering as well. Can both girls be on the same team for carpooling?
No. The girl's may end up on the same team due to the blind draft, but we do not take requests for teams. We have found that the girls will know someone on their team or meet new friends and since we are all located in T/E, carpooling hasn't been an issue in the past.
13) My daughter loved her coach last year. May I please have the same coach?
No. It may happen due to the blind draft, but we do not take requests. The girls will become better players learning from a wide variety of coaches.
14) When are the practices and games?
Please see the tab "Our Program" for detailed information on each grade level. The 3/4 group and the 5/6 group practice twice a week with a game on Saturday. The 7/8 group practice once per week (usually a Sunday afternoon) and have a game on Saturday. The 3/4 group plays all in-house games whereas the 5/6 and 7/8 groups will play in-house as well as teams from other leagues. Detailed schedules for the spring season will be posted on this site once finalized in the spring.
15) I'm not receiving emails from Quix Stix or the coach. Why?
Please contact pioneerquixstix@gmail.com to make sure the email on file is current. Each family can have up to 2 emails on file. Also, please check your computer's spam settings to allow mass emails from our system.
16) Can you recommend a Club team for my daughter for the summer season?
We are thrilled that your daughter wishes to continue playing lacrosse through the summer, however we do not recommend any one Club team over another nor are we associated with any club team. Each player is unique and it is up to you to find the best fit for your daughter and your own schedules. There are numerous Club teams available to different levels of players. A list of the various girls lacrosse clubs can be found at www.palacrosse.com .
17) I'd like to volunteer. How can I help?
Thank you! Our league is run 100% by volunteers. Lacrosse experience is not necessary in all positions! We are in constant need of dedicated folks willing to help with equipment, field lining, merchandise, Quix Stix Day, etc. We are also always adding new coaches to our coaching staff. If interested in helping, please contact pioneerquixstix@gmail.com .
